Forty-five years. It is a milestone that tastes exactly like our signature Chocolate Chip Shortbread—rich, authentic, and undeniably "so worth it."

In 1981, Mary Macleod began a journey in a small Toronto kitchen with a simple family recipe, an unwavering commitment to quality, and a single, defining belief: If you’re going to indulge, do it right. Today, as we celebrate our 45th Anniversary, we aren't just looking back at the decades; we are celebrating the fact that through every evolution of our brand, the cookie at the heart of our story hasn't changed a single bit.

A Heritage of Quality, Handcrafted for Generations

For 45 years, our shortbread has remained true to the way Mary made it: simple, premium ingredients, baked with care, and handcrafted to create that perfect, buttery snap. While our business has grown, our recipes have stayed the same.

As we mark this milestone, we fondly remember our founder, Mary Macleod. Though she passed away in 2016, her spirit guides every batch we bake.

"Carrying on Mary’s legacy is both an honour and a responsibility we feel every single day," says Sharon Macleod, our Chief Cookie Officer. "Mary believed that excellence was the only standard. Forty-five years later, we are still baking her shortbread with the same care and the same commitment to quality she insisted upon from day one."

Sophisticated Evolution: From Red Boxes to Gold Foil

Our look has grown alongside us. You may remember our early days of classic red boxes; today, our signature blue packaging, adorned with elegant gold foil, reflects the premium, gift-worthy quality inside. The presentation has become more refined and elevated, yet it remains—and always will be—unmistakably Mary Macleod’s.

Our growth has also extended far beyond our Toronto roots. We are proud to share a taste of Canadian-crafted excellence with the world, exporting to the United States, the UAE, and Panama.

Today, we have focused our craft on six signature flavours, including our celebrated Gluten-Free options. We have been deeply moved by the recognition from our community, from winning the Toronto Star’s Cookie Bracket to being voted Toronto’s Holiday Cookie of the Year. But truly, the greatest reward has been your loyalty.
